LSUA will be holding its second annual gumbo cookoff on Thursday, February 22 from 11:30 to 1:00 on the LSUA Quad. This event is part of the Homecoming activities at LSUA going on throughout much of the week. Local companies are invited to participate by coming to campus and cooking enough for 100 samples to be given to students, faculty, staff and others who attend. There will be a trophy awarded at the end for the best gumbo as judged by participants. If you are interested in participating, please contact Shere' Thaxton with the LSUA Foundation.
The 2018 Mardi Gras season marks the Hixson Classic Car & College Cheerleader Parades 11th consecutive year running through downtown Alexandria. This is a great FREE parade for anyone wishing to participate with their classic vehicle. The parade is an amazing time for family and people of all ages and backgrounds to come out and experience the excitement. The Hixson Parade lines up in the parking lot beneath interstate 49 at the corner of MLK (10th St.) and Murray St. starting at 2pm on Friday February 9th.

Teen Tech is usually celebrated for just one week in March - The Rapides Parish Library is using the entire month to celebrate and ensure that teens are competent and ethical users of technologies, especially those that are offered through libraries such as DVDs, databases, audiobooks, and videogames. To encourage teens to use libraries' non-print resources for education and recreation, and recognize that librarians are qualified, professionals in the field of information technology.
