Alexandria Downtown Cultural Arts District, 4p.m.-9p.m. Sponsored by Arts Council of Central Louisiana. A free family oriented arts festival with over 60 participating artists, vendors, and live entertainment acts held in Downtown Alexandria’s Cultural Arts District. River Oaks Art Square, 1330 Second Street. 10a.m. - 4p.m. Using acrylic gesso to draw images in relief, students will use different painting and glazes technique to create a completed piece of art. Cost: $40 per person. Call Rachael Dauzat: 473-2670.

Arts & Healthcare Inc., Cabrini Hospital Gallery, (Cabrini outpatient building, 1^st floor across from Radiology) and the Rapides Gallery (South Tower between the ER and the Lobby) for the entire month of October.  All art is for sale with a portion of the proceeds going to continue arts programs in our local cancer centers. Alexandria Museum of Art Classroom,

1p.m – 4p.m. Participants will use found objects from personal collections and items donated by the community to create an assemblage piece using composition, shape, and style. This class welcomes donations of found objects but not limited to: keys, coins, locks, nuts, bolts, washers, doorknobs, drawer pulls, small chains, wire remnants, springs, hinges, etc., objects that are mostly metal.

Cost: $25 for members, $35 for non-members.

1p.m. - 3p.m. Artists Pat Musick and Jerry Carr create works of art that portray the feeling or fragility felt by aliens and making astronauts as they look down at our earth. Families and kids of all ages can pretend they are aliens making art from organic materials from our Fragile Home, planet earth inspired by the exhibition Our Fragile Earth.

1p.m. -3p.m. Families and kids of all ages will learn how to make architectural structures using light balsa wood. They will test their amazing structures to see who will build the strongest! Their artwork will be inspired by art from the ReTooled: Highlights from the Hechinger Collection exhibition.
