The Kisatchie National Forest is pleased to partner with the Rapides Parish Library, Atwood’s Bakery, Red River Bank, and Hayes E Daze Ranch to celebrate Smokey Bear’s 75th Birthday. The big celebration will occur on Saturday, September 28, at the Alexandria Forestry Center which is located at 2500 Shreveport Highway, Pineville, LA, across from the Veterans Administration Hospital. The party kicks off at 9:00 a.m. and ends at Noon.

Events in the city of Alexandria, Louisiana Historic Rapides Cemetery Tour in November

Dr. Zhongqiang (Donald) Wang, Professor of English at the School of Foreign Studies in the Southern Medical University, Guangzhou, P.R. China and a visiting scholar at LSUA, will kick off this Fall’s Cavanaugh Lecture Series on September 10th at 5:30 PM at the Alexandria Museum of Art.

His topic is “American Missionaries in Early 20th Century China: Their Writings about Chinese Life and Contributions to Chinese Society.”

Join us on the third floor of the Alexandria International Airport to step back to the Regency Period where you will enjoy period food, dance lessons, and interactive displays about Mary Shelley and her family, her writing, the various versions of the Frankenstein monster and life during this period. If you like, come dressed in Regency Period clothing.

National Reptile Awareness Day is Monday October 21st, so we decided to get a head start! Reptiles are a vital part of a healthy environment, with common snakes helping to keep down bugs and rodents that would love to make a nest in your home. Reptile Day is an excellent opportunity to educate yourself on the wonders of the scaly world, and perhaps learn an appreciation for them. Help us get a jump start. ​Admission $1.00. Sugar Day is a family friendly festival featuring handmade arts and crafts, live music, dancing, children’s activities and MORE. The main attraction is the actual process of sugar making, which we do in our reproduction 1840s sugar mill. Louisiana Sugar Refinery gentlemen will return to tell the sugar story, plus many more activities that we do not have space on this page to name. Admission $5, children 3 and under Free.
